The first edition of the Women's Hockey India League will feature four teams: Delhi SG Pipers, Odisha Warriors, Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, and Soorma Hockey Club.
Delhi SG Pipers boast a strong squad, with experienced India forward Navneet Kaur captaining the team and Belgian defender Emma Puvrez serving as vice-captain. Kaur, who debuted internationally in 2014, has netted 53 goals in 178 matches and continues to be a key figure for India.
Dutch coach Dave Smolenaars, who came on board as the analytical coach for India’s women’s team last year, will lead the Pipers, assisted by Tushar Khandekar.
All Hockey India affiliated state member units are eligible to participate in the event and all eligible veteran players, aged around and above 40, who want to participate in the tournament will have to contact their respective member units and register through the Hockey India Member Unit Portal.
On the other hand, Odisha Warriors are a force to be reckoned with. Experienced Indian midfielder Neha Goyal, will captain the team, supported by young vice-captain Ishika Chaudhary.
Janneke Schopman, former head coach of the Indian women’s team, will coach the Warriors. After leaving the Indian setup following the failure to qualify for the 2024 Olympics, Schopman is determined to prove herself in the league.
