MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) logged a 10.62-percent decrease in the crime rate of Metro Manila in December 2024, it reported Wednesday.

From 10,323 crimes recorded in November 2024, the total dropped to 9,227 in December 2024.

In particular, focus crimes decreased by 11.94 percent — from 469 cases in November 2024 to 413 in December. Focus crimes include murder, homicide, motorcycle theft, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, and vehicle theft.

The NCRPO noted declines in murder cases by 10.71 percent, homicide by 30.77 percent, and motorcycle theft by 50 percent.

In a statement, foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei defended his country’s attack on Israel and “strongly condemned” the sanctions, saying they were “illegal and unjustified.”

In the month as well, the NCRPO confiscated 9,122 grams of shabu (crystal meth) and 5,868.43 grams of marijuana worth a total of P63,838,276.60 in 761 operations, arresting 1,120 individuals in its anti-illegal drug campaign.

Further, the police seized 212 guns and arrested 202 individuals for violating firearms regulations in 198 operations in December, especially in preparation for the 2025 national and local elections.

Regional law enforcement also led 900 operations against illegal gambling, confiscating P554,874.50 in pot money and arresting 2,272 individuals.

The NCRPO also highlighted its enforcement of local ordinances, citing 6,232,135 individuals for violations and collecting P3,256,096,143 in fines as penalties.

“Every arrest and every case resolved are steps towards building trust and fostering collaboration between the police and the people we serve,” NCRPO Director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin said in a statement.
